GALEN WESTON
Bio
When Galen received his first guitar at the age of 11, he has been enthralled with this instrument and the greats who have mastered it. As the guitar became Galen’s greatest means to express and technically challenge himself, it only made sense to pursue a jazz degree at Toronto’s Humber College, one of North America’s premiere music schools.
Upon graduating, Galen took the Toronto jazz scene by storm with his band’s ambitious debut album, Plugged In. The highly acclaimed release features 12 tracks that include 10 originals by Weston and arrangements of Keith Jarrett’s “Country” and Jimmy Van Huesen’s “Like Someone in Love”. Weston is accompanied by veteran Toronto session players David Woodhead on fretless electric bass, Al Cross on drums, keyboardist Matt Horner, Richard Underhill on alto sax, and Rick Lazar on percussion.
After a stunning debut album, Plugged In, Galen Weston Band embarked on extensive US and Europe tours including opening for the Gipsy Kings’ on a 20-city North American summer tour before, and a stunning performance alongside David Sanborn at the Port Dover International Jazz Festival. The new album, The Space Between produced by Steve Rodby (14 time Grammy winner), with songs alternating all the way from poignant ballads to Afro-Cuban jams, was released to a growing international following, which saw the band revisit the US, Britain, Austria, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Czech Republic, and China and included performances at the Elegance Cafe (Rome), Sunset Sunside Jazz Club (Paris), Porgy & Bess (Vienna), A Trane and Quasimodo Club (Berlin), the Reduta Jazz Club (Prague), the Harlem Jazz Club (Barcelona), JZ Clubs and JZ Jazz Festival (China), among others.
